Ohio State's foreign language requirements Ohio State has a competitive admission process in which students are considered for admission based largely on their academic performance and credentials. All applying students are required to have successfully completed two or more units of the same foreign language in high school, although three units is preferred (most admitted students have had three or more). Foreign language course work in high school should focus on listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. A fundamental grounding in grammar as well as conversational experience is desired. In addition, students should be able to express their thoughts in written form in the chosen foreign language. Ohio State will accept American Sign Language (ASL) to fulfill this requirement.
